Management of impacted third molar tooth

An impacted tooth is one that fails to erupt in to the dental arch with in the expected time. The tooth becomes impacted because adjacent teeth, dense overlying bone, excessive soft tissue, or a genetic abnormality prevents eruption.

Oral healthcare in pregnancy

Oral health and hygiene is an important component of overall health of a pregnant mother. Dental care and most of the procedures are safe during the pregnancy and can prevent long term problems to the mother and child. Physiological changes during pregnancy may result in tooth erosion and dental caries as result of vomiting and gastric reflux. In addition gingival changes can occur due to hormonal imbalance during pregnancy. The clinical manifestations of gingival changes and inflammation are pain, swelling and bleeding from gums. It is important to maintain good oral health during the pregnancy to reduce the vertical and horizontal transmission of cariogenic bacteria to the newborn.
