Dr. W.G.Wimaladharma was educated at Mahinda College, Galle from 1935 to 1946 and had remarkable achievements in sports captaining the College 1st eleven football team and 1st eleven Cricket team as well as taking part in numerous other sports activities such as Cadetting and Athletics.

He left Sri Lanka in 1951 to study dentistry at the University of Durham, Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K. Here too he played cricket for the Durham Medicals 1952-57 and Durham University 1953-57.He captained both these teams. He also captained the Newcastle Upon Tyne British Council Cricket team in 1955.He graduated BDS in 1957 and worked for a short while as a locum in the British National Health Service.

He returned to Sri Lanka in 1958 and set up a private practice on the 4th of April 1958 and completed 50 years of General Dental Practice in 2008.

He was the President of the Sri Lanka Dental Association from 1979-80 and 1981-82. He was the President of the Paedodontic Dental Association, President of the College of General Dental Practitioners Association 1992-94 and delivered the College Brito Muthunayagam oration in 1996. He has also been a past president of the General Dental Practitioners Association. He was conferred the FCGDP in 1994.

He was the founder President of the University-upon Tyne, alumni association, Sri Lanka branch in 2003.He was also the president of the Mahinda College Old Boys Association (Colombo Branch) from 1995 – 2001.

He was married to Lorraine. They have two daughters and two sons. Hiranya and Chandrin are lawyers. Pravina and Mahin are Dental surgeons.
